Community Education

The Well-Being Program provides workshops primarily for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind individuals that focus on empowerment, self development, and life skills enhancement.

Occasionally, the WBP does provide professional development opportunities for professionals working with these populations.

Workshops:

Community members obtain information in an interactive format on a wide variety of topics. The Workshop Planner actively gathers information about community needs and interests in planning the workshop schedules and topics.

The workshops are accessible to all participants by using interpreters, D.I.’s (Deaf Interpreters) and other communication technology.

To see a list of current and past workshops provided by the WBP, click here.

If you wish to attend any of these workshops in the future, please e-mail wbp@vrhb.bc.ca and ask for Lisa Anderson, Workshop Planner.

Lisa will add your name on any of the workshop topic waitlists. Workshops are repeated when the waitlist is full (minimum number: 10 participants)

The Well-Being Program Workshop Planner ensures that there are workshops in the following cities around the province of British Columbia:

The Workshop Planner co-ordinates workshops once-a-month for the Lower Mainland. Currently these workshops happen on the last Friday evening of the month in Burnaby or New Westminster.

In Victoria, Nanaimo, Kelowna, and Prince George, workshops are scheduled around the local Deaf club and Deaf community schedules.

To see addresses of the building locations of these workshops, please click here.

In each of the towns outside of the Lower Mainland, a local Deaf contact/coordinator is in contact with WBP’s Workshop Planner to assist in organizing Well-Being Program Workshops in the local communities.

To see a contact list of these contact persons, click here.

During September and October 2003, workshops that are high in demand will be hosted.

For upcoming workshop schedules starting September 2003, please click here.

Ideas and feedback for future topics are always welcome.

Workshop Satisfaction Survey – 2003

From August to October 2003, Lisa Anderson, Workshop Planner, will conduct a Workshop Satisfaction Survey.

To be included in this survey and to ensure your feedback about WBP workshops is included, contact Lisa Anderson.

When the topic warrants more self-analysis and in-depth discussions, we often turn the workshops into 6 or 8-week sessions as Support/Discussion Groups. For more information, click here.

Professional Development

Occasionally, the Well-Being Program provides opportunities for the professionals with whom they contract: interpreters and registered therapists.

For example, in 2002, a therapist and an interpreter teamed up to present “The Art of Creating Meaning In Therapist/Interpreter/Client Interactions”

This workshop was hosted as a part of the ongoing exploration of the collaborative work: “Psychology with Deaf Clients: the Evolving Process of a Therapist/Interpreter Team”
